Earthquake Page

The earthquake load is applied According to AS 1170.4-2007 section 4 and uses from the general page the Site sub-soil class that will determine the necessary normalized response spectra for site class.

SettingDescription
Hazard factor The hazard factor (Z) shall be taken from AS 1170.4-2007 Table 3.
Damping [%] - The use of 5% damping is considered as a reasonable representation of real structural behavior.
Vertical Earthquake if yes is selected the vertical ground motion during earthquake is applied.
Factor Recommended value describing the vertical response spectrum. The vertical design force shall not be less than 50% of the maximum horizontal design earthquake force in either direction.

The drawing shows the elastic seismic response coefficient normalized using the input hazard factor and the result plotted against the period of vibration. It is given for different soil profiles, based on 5 % damping.
